Vegetablism vs #SpudOff (part one) by @iammudrock

Not only content with doing the Vegetablism Chilli Trial, we also seem to have agreed to take part in the Two Thirsty Gardener's 2013 Spud Off. Everyone uses the same variety of potato, in this case Pink Fir Apple and we can all pop them anywhere they want.

In the interests of science, we've decided to put them in soil, and not up our bot bots.

I haven't grown potatoes in a container before, just in the ground at the allotment and to be honest, never really had much of a harvest.

Last year, being of Irish descent, we planted on St. Patricks day as is tradition, even though it was pissing down.

This year I got a handy leaflet in with the seed potatoes we bought, informing us not to plant in overly wet soil as it will rot the tubers before they get a chance to get going... So July then? Anyway I digress...

Back to the Great British Spud Off 2013.

Immediately I had the idea of a barrel to grow the spuds in, a wooden one would look cool, I haven't seen any lying around in skips lately but what I have seen is plenty of pallets, I fucking love a pallet, free wood that can be made into other stuff.

How do I make a pallet into a barrel?

I thought, slept on it, then it came to me. In and around my shed are bikes, eight I think in total including three BMXs. One of these is in a right state with a knackered bottom braket that I never have, nor will get round to fixing.

In time honoured Vegetablism artistic shiteness I give you The BMXSpudBarrel.

MSPaint effort to help people visualize.

Obviously the planks will go all the way around and the inside will be lined with Mylex or some such draining black fabric stuff.

With the axle still connected to the bottom I can even rotate it daily so all the plants get a bit of sun. Now what can go wrong?

We appreciate every single comment and secretly long for them. Feel free to say anything, be it rude, unhelpful or possibly even relevant. They will all be loved and will probably be replied to as well. More importantly we don't have word verification, we're annoying enough already.

We're in it together. Especially when it's going wrong.
